So I’m sure that by now you have heard of the Xbox Towel Trick, right? 
It can be crushing to a gamer when your game console starts to display the xbox 360 rrod. This stands for the red ring of death, the 3 red lights on the front, so you might be tempted to search on the internet for a free way to fix the problem. Most of the time you’ll be told by these ‘experts’ to attempt the XBox Towel Trick. Before I go on to describe what the xbox towel trick involves, and why it’s very dangerous, let’s examine what causes the Xbox 360 rrod in the first place.
Overheating is the main cause of the XBox 360 3 red lights error. The early XBox 360 models were all created with power and good looks in mind, unfortunately, Microsoft didn’t really think about the heat being generated by all of these components packed into a tight space. There are 2 cooling fans at the rear but they aren’t up to the job and the case is very narrow, and doesn’t permit enough heat to get out of the console. Add to this the fact that the 2 main chips, the graphics chip and the main processor, are both connected via a common heat sink and you have a recipe for disaster. This means that anyone who uses their console a lot, or keeps it in a warm room or confined space, runs the risk of it overheating and failing.

The xbox towel trick then is an attempt to fix this overheating problem. The Xbox Towel Trick (hoax) basically involves you wrapping a towel around your console and letting it heat up again. Although it seems difficult to believe there is some good theory behind the madness of wrapping your XBox 360 up in a towel. Basically, you’re trying to heat it up to a point where the motherboard ‘fixes itself’ by allowing the solder on the bus to re-flow fixing the previous damage.

I hope that you now realize that by trying the xbox towel trick causes such gross overheating, even if there’s a small chance that it will somehow fix the damage, is very risky indeed. It takes very small time for this trick to end in disaster with your Xbox 360, and possibly your living space on fire.
The only sure way to fix the xbox 360 rrod error is to get a good fix xbox 360 guide from the internet and perform the fix yourself. There are several good guides available to download, all for about the cost of a night out at the movies with a friend, and you need no special tools to do the fix, which takes about an hour. The best thing about it is the fix is permanent and above all is safe. The Xbox Towel Trick, or Hoax as I like to call it, should not be tried unless you really do have a death wish for your Xbox 360 game console.
